Doodle Day 7.30.10

(Click the image to see it bigger)

After looking back at this I sort of feel like I need to find that article that said that Angels will become the new Vampires, and ask the writer for next week's lotto numbers. Seriously.

Today's DD is a compilation of some of the best books I've read this summer (and one that's in the mail). Actually...half of the doodles are of books that aren't even out yet...oops. At least they don't contain any spoilers that would get me in trouble. I hope.

So, starting from Top Left we have:

- A scene from Robin McKinley's Sunshine, recently reprinted with a new cover that I despise but, you haven't read great vampire fiction till you've read Sunshine.
- To it's right is an illustration of a quote featured on Fallen Archangel from Becca Fitzpatrick's Crescendo.
- Back to the left again, sketches of Graves & Dru from Lili St.Crow's Strange Angels.
- Next to them is Aaron in all his angelic greatness from Thomas E Sniegoski's The Fallen.
- Bellow him is a drawing of Bethany and Xavier from Alexandra Adornetto's USA debut, Halo. I'll be reviewing that shortly.
- And lastly we have Wesley and Bianca from Kody Keplinger's The DUFF: (Designated Ugly Fat Friend). This book made me so ridiculously happy, I couldn't stop smiling as I read it.

I know drawings wont get across the same effect that a well written review will, but I hope they still nudge you in the direction of good reading!

Ally Carter Q&A in Honor of Thursday!

Guess who's coming to Books & Books on Thursday? From the title you probably already know one of the authors, Ally Carter, New York Times bestselling author of the Gallagher Girls series... But bestselling author Melissa de la Cruz, author of the Blue Bloods series, is coming too!

So, we're having a special
Blue Bloods and Gallagher Girls Signing Social!

There will even be special key necklaces (for Keys to the Repository) and Gallagher Academy iron-on patches (for Only the Good Spy Young) given away. You can find out more and see pictures of what we're giving away on the Facebook page for the event.

They’ll be here Thursday, July 29th at 6:30pm at
Books & Books
265 Aragon Avenue
Coral Gables, Florida

When Ally Carter was here in February, she answered our Q&A. Enjoy it below and we hope to see you Thursday!:

1. What's the most random question you can think of? Answer it.

What's my favorite ice cream?
Chocolate Chip

2. If 'they' decided to make a movie of your life, which actress would you want to play you?

Reese Witherspoon

3. If someone suddenly threw a wad of twenty thousand dollars at you, how would you respond?

Give it back to whoever threw it because obviously it was a mistake.

4. When writing some authors plan every detail and others just dive into the book, so are you an outliner or a diver (or a mix)?

I'm a combination. I know the big things like on a road trip how you know the stops, but not where to stay or eat or the little details.

5. Who pwns everything?

My boyfriend, George Clooney.

6. Can you do the Time Warp?

No, I can't do any organized dances.

Inara Scott Q&A

We were lucky enough to have Inara Scott, author of Delcroix Academy that comes out August 24, to answer our Q&A.

1. What's the most random question you can think of? Answer it.

Shoot, this is expecting me to be creative, right? Okay,
Q: How long does it take you to make a Burger King Whopper?
A: In high school, about six seconds. But I'd probably be much slower if I tried it today.

2. If 'they' decided to make a movie of your life, which actor would you want to play you?

Gwyneth Paltrow

3. If someone suddenly threw a wad of twenty thousand dollars at you, how would you respond?

Mmm, knowing me, I'd panic and drop it. And then immediately call 911 because I'd be sure it was stolen and I'm way too much of a goody-goody to keep stolen money. But if the police ASSURED me that it was okay, I'd probably use the money to build a little room off our back deck that I could use for an office and yoga studio. I've been fantasizing about this for some time, actually. ;-)

4. When writing some authors plan every detail and others just dive into the book, so are you an outliner or a diver (or a mix)?

I'm a plotter, but not a detailer. I generally have a pretty good outline of the chapters in the book, turning points, climax, etc. before I start, but then it evolves and changes as I write. It's an iterative process -- each new draft influences the others.

5. Who pwns everything?

I am deeply confused by this question.

6. Can you do the Time Warp?

Yes, but it's been a while!
